Fighting Dragon Tae Kwon Do and 2920 Unified Tae Kwon Do are joining forces!

As announced early in September, Fighting Dragon Tae Kwon Do and 2920 Unified Tae Kwon Do will be combining schools with all 2920 Unified students and instructors joining the Fighting Dragon fold. We’re sure that everyone from both schools will have questions, and so we’ve put together the information below to hopefully address your questions.

  • This is actually something that Master Bezoni and Master Meehan have been discussing for quite a while. Both instructors felt that there was a benefit in combining teaching staff, as well as being able to grow the curriculum available to all students.

  • As of September 11, 2023 all classes will combine and be treated as a single school.

  • By the end of 2023, all students will be studying the Fighting Dragon Tae Kwon Do curriculum developed by Master Bezoni.

Those students who are close to testing for their next rank within the Unified Tae Kwon Do system will continue to work toward that goal and begin learning Fighting Dragon material after their next successful test.

All other students will keep their current rank and belt that they have achieved, but will begin to learn the Fighting Dragon equivalent rank material and test from that point forward in the Fighting Dragon rank system.

  • The table below outlines how Unified Tae Kwon Do ranks will translate to Fighting Dragon Tae Kwon Do ranks:

    • White and White w/ Yellow Stripe - White Belt

    • Yellow Belt - Yellow Belt

    • Yellow w/ Green Stripe - Orange Belt

    • Green Belt - Green Belt

    • Green w/ Blue Stripe - Camouflage Belt

    • Blue Belt - Blue Belt

    • Blue w/ Red Stripe - Purple Belt

    • Red Belt - Brown Belt

    • Red w/ Black Stripe - Red Belt

    • Red w/ 2 Black Stripes and Red/Black - Red/Black

  • There are huge new benefits for ALL students!

    Larger Instructional Staff

All students will benefit from having a larger instructional staff made up of two Master level instructors and 3 active Black Belt instructors.

    Additional Class Times

The combination of the schools also means that more classes will be available for Fighting Dragon students - with an immediate addition of a 5:00 PM class on Thursdays and an internet based class available on Fridays.

    Expanded and new content

Carrying forward a 2920 Unified tradition, we will be adding in sparring in the last 10 minutes of every class. Make sure you bring your gear to every class to take advantage of this opportunity!

We will also be adding to the topics and areas of instruction, introducing Weapons and Jiu-Jitsu classes over the next few months.

    Tournament Competition

As the school continues to grow, opportunities for competition also continue to open up! Students will be able to compete in both the Texas Karate Organization (TKO) and Amateur Organization of Karate (AOK) tournament circuits, expanding their exposure to other styles, schools and students across Texas.

Exposure to the larger Martial Arts world

Many students from both Fighting Dragon and 2920 Unified took advantage of attending the recent IMAC (International Martial Arts Council of America) training camp held in Houston this past July. All students will have the ability to attend this annual training camp going forward, as well as other groups such as the The Karate Association (formerly the Tang Soo Do Karate Association), the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute led by Sifu Andy Kimura (founded by Bruce Lee and the precursor of Jeet Kune Do) and instructors from many other schools conducting seminars in the area.

  • We recognize that many students (and parents) have already made an investment in their uniform(s). Our goal as part of the combination is to make it as minimally impactful as possible, and as such we will allow students to continue wearing their 2920 Unified Tae Kwon Do uniforms until the earliest of these events occur:

    • Students outgrow or need to replace their current uniform

    • Students will be competing in an open tournament (AOK, TKO or other open organization) as part of the Fighting Dragon school

    • Whenever you’re ready to make the switch!

  • NO! Well, at least, not yet. :)

All current agreements will be left in place at their current rates until the end of the year. As we approach December additional information will be shared around any pricing structure changes.

If you have any questions that haven’t been covered here, please don’t hesitate to ask Master Bezoni or Master Meehan!
